We bought a house!!
We officially closed on our house last Thursday and WHEW! What a week it has been!! You probably remember me mentioning that the heat wasn't working and that it was a minor repair, right? Well, we started to get nervous the week of our closing because the temperatures were soooooooo cold and the house had no heat. We called the seller and asked them if we could fix the heat before our close date just as a precaution. They were so nice and offered to pay to have the heat fixed! (They were no longer living in the house and did not realize that it was broken.) Which was great because, as repairs usually go, it wound up costing three times as much as we were expecting. The Monday and Tuesday before our closing, poor Shane and Debra (our realtor) froze their butts off in the house waiting on the heater guy to get it fixed. They literally had the oven on to keep them warm! Wednesday, we waited for our HUD to be done so that I could get to the bank before 4pm to have the money wired over. I made it there at 3:55pm!! Nothing like cutting it close! We headed over to the new house to do our final walk through and everything looked good. Late that night, I got a call from our mortgage officer with great news--They were lowering our interest rate! Woo hoo! But, this meant re-doing all of the closing paperwork for our 9am closing. They got it all done just in time and we signed that morning. Here's Shane and I right after we got done signing:
Since then, it's just been a whirlwind. We hired painters to paint the main living room because it was 2 stories high. They then spilled a half a bucket of paint all over our brand new carpet....They spent 2 days trying to get the stain out with no success. Good news is that the paint looks great! The carpet, not so much. Saturday, was major repair day and our new appliances arrived! My brother taught be how to use a tile saw and we successfully tiled the laundry room. It turned out pretty darn good if I do say so myself! We had WONDERFUL friends and family that helped us move everything we own into the house on Sunday. What a HUGE blessing not to have to hire movers! Now, we're working on unpacking millions and millions of boxes and attempting to figure out where in the world we're going to put all of our stuff. This in addition to many smallish (and some mediumish) projects we have going on. Overall, the house is good. There is good space and all of our furniture fits. However, we're definitely breaking it in and learning that it has it's quirks! (Including our neighbors! Don't park on the opposite side of the street from our house or a tiny old lady will yell at you.)
Oh--and we're technologically in the dark! We have no TV or internet yet. Shane set up our flatscreen with a paperclip in the back, so we can watch a little TV and DVD's. It is soooo strange for me to be without the internet but I think this is good for me. I usually spend way too much time on the computer. I have learned that I miss nothing on FB from being gone for a week (no offense everyone! I love you but I'd much rather catch up in person or on the phone!)
