Ideas

I haven't been blogging much lately but have had a million things on my mind! I've had some ideas swimming around in my head for awhile now and am finally beginning to put it all together. I think that when I stopped designing for a living, a part of me felt this "woosh" of relief. On one hand, I was sad to not have that creative outlet anymore (and the travel and the paycheck....) but on the other hand, I was relieved not to be creating under someone else's guidelines. Many, many, many people have asked me over the last 1 year and 8 months if I miss working and designing. My answer is always that I miss parts of it. I am incredibly grateful to be at home with my son and never had that worry that I made the wrong decision. But, I do miss having a creative outlet and that purpose for my ideas.

So....lately I've been venturing into the world of designing for myself. I've come up with some ideas, a label, some business cards and have been sewing up a storm. (So much so that I now have to take my serger to the shop. Wait, scratch that. My MIL's serger to the shop.) I'm planning to open up a virtual shop on http://www.etsy.com/ which is a wonderful website that sells handmade goods. I'm obviously starting on an incredibly small scale since I'll be sewing every item myself, but it will be a place that I can sell whatever I wish. I'm not really ready to go into too much detail about it, but I'm really excited!! I'm not expecting this to be a million dollar money making machine, but I'm looking forward to putting my creative energy back into the world in a tangible way. There are a million small details that I'm still working out (including how to work all of this into my current schedule and routine....) so I'll let you know as soon I get things up and running.

Swimming

A friend of ours invited us to go swim at her neighborhood pool today and we had a blast! It was the perfect setup for kiddos and had little spouts of water shooting out. Logan had so much fun!! She sent me these pictures that she took of us.

2 Year Checkup

I took Logan to the doctor this morning for his 2 year checkup. He is 32.6 pounds and 35 3/4 inches tall (just shy of 3 feet!!!! WOW!) He is the 90% for weight and 78% for height. I'd say that he did pretty well overall. We brought his doctor kit and he looked in my ears and checked my heartbeat while we were waiting. He did NOT like laying down on the exam table at all. She laid him down to mark his length/height on the paper and he just cried. Then he didn't want to get onto the scale. I finally had to hop on and show him that the numbers change. He thought that was cool and was standing on his tip toes to see the numbers. After that, they took a picture of his eyes. I was not really expecting this part of the exam and hadn't talked with him aobut what to expect. But, he handled it pretty well and held his forehead against the machine. They just snapped a picture and then send this off to a lab and then notify us if they see anything that doesn't look right. Finally, he got to see the doctor and she said he looked great. I talked with her a little bit about potty training and she said that boys don't usually potty train until 3-3 1/2 years. Really???? Oh, boo for me if I wind up changing diapers that long! (If anyone reading this has successfully potty trained a boy earlier then this please share it with me! It will make me feel better....) She also told me that it's time to make the switch to skim or 1% milk. For some reason, I was expecting her to say 2% but she said that it has too much fat. At the end, he had to get one shot since I sort of delayed his vaccines a little bit. (My personal stance is pro-vaccine but I never allowed him to have more then 4 shots at a time.) But, the good news is that he doesn't have to get anymore shots (besides flu...) until he's 4! Yeah! He was a such a trooper for it all and was very excited to get his Cars stickers at the end.

After his appointment, we went over to Shane's office and chatted for a bit before having lunch out with Daddy. How lucky we are to be able to have family time at 11am in the middle of the week!!! Once we got home, I put poor Logan down for a nap and he's been sleeping for 2 1/2 hours! I think that shot just wore him out. We're having a pretty calm week, and taking advantage of it. I had to get a TB test yesterday, so we drove into "town" for that, then his apt this morning, and then again tomorrow for me to get the TB test read. But, a friend invited us to go swimming in the morning which will be fun! We have another week before heading down to TX to visit Granny and see some family for the 4th. We're trying to soak up all of the family time that we can because Shane has to be in CA for 2 whole weeks at the end of July. He got nominated for a special project, so it's a huge honor for him to get to go. But, it's kind of bittersweet that he will be gone that long. He is working so hard at his job and I have to say that I am super proud of how well he is doing and how hard he works to continue to make us priority number one despite all of his work pressures.

A big boy

Tonight was the first night that I put Logan to sleep without ANY rocking at all. None. After his bedtime routine (rushed because we stayed out until 8:30pm at a friends house) and books, I asked him if he wanted to "rock-rock" and he said "no...night, night." So, I put him in his bed and did our normal in-the-bed-routine and he was perfectly fine. So, I think I'm getting close to admitting that I now have a little boy and no longer a baby......I'm a little sad and sentimental about it all. I picked up his pictures from JCP today and was writing his name and 2 years on the back and it just felt wrong. Where did my little baby go???

This picture was taken last year around this time....

I have to admit that this really makes me sad. I try hard to celebrate all of the accomplishments every day. But, where oh where does the time go??? It seems like yesterday that he was pushing around that little car all over our house.

It almost gives me the itch for another one. Almost....

Since we're on that subject....yes, we do want more babies. (Well, baby if you ask Shane!) I breastfed Logan for 16 months and I am enjoying this time that I am not growing anything or physically feeding anyone. My body never really started to feel "normal" to me until I weaned. And, since I plan to nurse the next one at least as long (shooting for 18 months!) I'm going to enjoy this time in between. I'm looking forward to more, but I'm in no hurry....

Words, words, words....

I just had to write something down about how FAR Logan has come in just the last few months. I can remember at his 15 month check up, he was not talking at all. (Maybe a Mama or Dada here or there, but that was all.) Gradually, he began to pick up more and more words and by 22 months was talking quite a bit. But, nothing compares to the last 3 months of change. He is now stringing 3-4 words together and coming up with thoughts all on his own. He can count to 10 all by himself and knows all of his colors. (Although, sometimes the neutrals get him stuck-brown, black, grey.) He's calling himself by name now and STILL loves to sing Happy Birthday even though his birthday was weeks ago. I keep telling Shane that we have to get it on video so we can post it on here. It's adorable!! He loves our dogs and knows most of their commands. He helps to feed them morning and night by carrying one of the bowls (they're pretty big!) scooping the food in, carrying it back to the kitchen and placing it down on the floor. He will say, "Back, Booker!" and Booker will back away from him. (The dogs pay him special attention because sometimes he will sneak them a goldfish or two!!) He loves animals and always points out the animals we see out and about, even if they are pictures on packages in the grocery store. This morning he said, "Read books, Mommy?" He wanted us to curl up in our living room chair and read together. He loves books and we read many, many, many each day.

We feel like we're moving towards potty training and transitioning to a "big boy" bed (he's still in his crib.) He's doing beautiful falling asleep on his own in his crib and we've been gradually weaning him off any rocking at all at night and for his nap. He's been going to sleep at 8pm and waking up around 8am (sometimes 8:30am!!) the next morning. He still naps about 2 hours each afternoon. So, we feel like the move to the toddler bed or twin bed will be smoother now that we have gotten to this point. Potty training.....he does NOT like to be dirty or wet now. AT ALL. Yesterday, he almost removed 3 diapers. I say "almost" because he had one side ripped open and the other side was still attached....This completely freaked me out because I'm not looking forward to the day that poop winds up everywhere. Eeeewwwww. But, from what I hear this is a sign that he is getting ready. We'll see....so what comes first?? Big bed or potty training?? I'm a big believer in "windows" with kids. I think sometimes a window opens when something would be an easier transition. If you miss this window, then I think it will be harder when you finally decide to do it. So, I'm keeping a close watch on things since I don't want to do both at the same time. (That would just be crazy....)

Okay, we're off to start our day now :) Shane left for OK on business this morning and we've got playgroup in a few. I'm taking Logan with me to a meeting tonight since Shane will be gone and then it's Mommy/Son time for a few days!! I've got some projects that I'm working on so I'm looking forward to some time to make some progress. I feel like I have a ton more to post about but it will have to wait for another day....

Summer Fun!!

Picture OVERLOAD!!! I somehow got these in reverse order so the newest ones are first. But, I think this finally catches me up on pictures. Whew!

This is Logan climbing up the ladder at our playgroup BBQ tonight. We could not believe that he could do this all alone!! What a big boy!!

My sweet boy...
