And on that note...

Two weeks of no updates on a toddler=lots of changes!! Logan's getting much more verbal and has started filling out his sentences. He now says "I not want to do that" which is kind of funny. This can be about a wide variety of things, like he'll say "I not want to eat dinner" or "I not want to go night-night." Yesterday he said, "I not wear bug pajamas!!" (This was after he had picked them out himself, LOL.) Usually, he can be convinced otherwise, but he's definitely voicing his opinions now! He's also repeating much, much more and we're having to be very careful about what those little ears hear. He is currently LOVING Thomas the Train and Bob the Builder--which he calls choo-choo and tractors (as in "watch choo-choo" or "watch tractors!" He is obsessed with anything trucks, tractors, cars, trains, airplanes, helicoptors...you name it. He is also getting into bugs now. He'll say "bug! bug!" whenever he sees one and now knows ants and spiders.

While we were in Texas with our family, he came down with Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. It was awful! It started with a strange rash (that was NOT on his hands or feet) and a low-grade fever. Eventually, the sores were in the mouth and the rash was all down his legs. Poor little guy was SO uncomfortable! He learned to say "medicine" and "itch cream" so he could ask for them when he needed them. I allowed him to eat and drink anything he wanted because he really wasn't consuming much of anything and I was so worried that he'd get dehydrated. Luckily, he'd drink the chocolate pediasure (which I called chocolate milk.) But, I spent several days after he was feeling better trying to explain why he couldn't have ice cream for breakfast or chocolate milk all day anymore. (Chocolate of any kinds is a BIG treat for him.) Reasoning with a two year old is nearly impossible!

Now, he's back to his normal spunky self and we're hoping to get back out there and see some of his friends this week after spending the last few weeks in TX. I haven't taken any pictures lately, but hopefully I'll dust off the camera and post some soon. I really think he is starting to look much more like a little boy and much less like a baby. Even his facial expressions are getting so much more mature...oh where does the time go?!?

Update

Last week, my Dad had a biopsy and was officially diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. (This was following a week of CAT scans and an MRI which had all pointed to cancer.) My father is truly one of my best friends and closest people to me in the world, so I'm taking this pretty hard. The good news is, he has wonderful doctors, countless friends and family and lots of prayers on his side.

I plan to continue blogging about all of things that bring JOY to our lives--especially sweet little (or not so little anymore!) Logan. My Mom, Dad and I have had many conversations recently about focusing on things that bring us strength, provide us with support and give us joy. I spent the last few weeks digesting all of this and trying to come to a place where I can move forward and do that. I struggled with what to share here. And, this is what I came up with: This is a place to share with family and friends the ups and downs of mothering a two year old. A place to post pictures of our family and share news with those who cannot be with us everyday. So, in light of this and, out of respect for my family and their privacy, I will not be posting updates about my Dad's cancer on this blog. I know that there are many (including my Dad) who enjoy checking our blog for Logan updates and pictures, and find happiness in hearing our funny stories or seeing what we are up too. So, I will do my best to focus on the good things, and to continue to share our lives with you all.

Thanks again for all of the support, patience and prayers.

I just noticed

today that my blog counter says I've received over 1,020 visits to my blog. This sends a simple reminder to me that I have a big network of people out there who care about me and my family. So, it is now that I ask a favor to you all. If anyone who is faithfully checking in could please add my family to your prayer lists, I'd really appreciate it. Logan, Shane and I are all healthy, but we're dealing with a family illness that is hitting us pretty hard. I'm sitting here thinking about all of the things that I am grateful for and trying to remember that hope and prayer will get us far. It would make me feel better to know that there are a lot of you out there praying for my family.

I hope to be in a place to blog soon, but not just yet. Thanks for being patient with me.

Big Boy Changes

Logan has officially made the switch from crib to toddler bed! Wow!!! I'm trying to upload a picture of his new bed but for some reason it only let me upload these other pictures. Weird. We weren't too sure when we were going to do the switch, but once we got the new bed put together, he got really excited. We had a big talk with him and asked him if he wanted to sleep in the big boy bed or his old bed. The new one sat up for a few days and eventually, he asked to sleep in it. So far, so good!! I was super nervous about this transistion, but he's doing really well for 2 nights (plus bedtime tonight) in. I'm sure we'll have our rough nights to come, but for right now, I'm celebrating what a big boy he is! (Despite the fact that I shed a few tears as we took down his crib.)

I don't have much energy to blog right now. Shane's in Kansas City for work and I'm sewing up a storm and not sleeping to much. I will say that it feels wonderful to be back at it! I've always said that I feel the most at home when there is a tape measure around my neck :)

But, here are a few cute pictures from the last couple of days. These were taken after bathtime the other night. He always says "wrap me up!" when he gets out of the tub.

Fourth of July

We left Thursday and drove down to TX to be with family for the weekend. Friday morning, Shane loaded up Booker and Lucy for the doggie hotel and then we were on our way to see Granny D. Logan was so cute talking about his Great Granny. Here we are with Granny shortly after we got there on Friday.
On Saturday the 4th we picked up Granny and headed out to the Fourth of July parade. Here's Logan all hot and sweaty from watching.

This is my Uncle Mo with a turkey hat on. He had 2 floats in the parade.

Later on that night, we went out for a family dinner with my Aunt and Uncle. Lots of places were closed, so we wound up at a little pizza joint.

Poor Logan has come down with some sort of virus. Yesterday when we got back to my parents house, we started to think that he wasn't feeling great. Last night, he woke up with 101 degree temperature. He was screaming so loud and saying OWWWWWW over and over. It was awful. As a Mommy, I just hate seeing him in pain and not being able to do anything about it. Thankfully, I packed the Tylenol and once it kicked in, he calmed down a little bit. It was a short and choppy nights sleep for Shane, Logan and I as we watched him closely and piled him in bed with us. (Which we only do if he's sick.) This morning, I was able to get him in to see a dr here and they thought it was strep. But, the culture came back negative, therefore it's a virus. He's been running fever all day today despite the fact that I'm giving him Tylenol every 4 hours. Shane and I both agree that this is the sickest that we have ever seen him. I'm hoping that this nasty virus will run its course quickly!!

We had planned to have dinner with Shane's family tonight, but Shane went by himself so I could stay here with Logan and let him rest. Logan and I were very disappointed to miss time with that side of the family. I know that Logan is very sad not to see his Grandma and Grandpa!!! We were all set to ride the Dart rail (a train!!!!) and go to the zoo tomorrow. Logan was so excited and we're just so sad that we're not going to be able to do it. As of right now, we're planning to make the drive back to AR on Wednesday. Shane is on vacation this week and we were hoping to have some family time there before he heads to Kansas City on Sunday for business.

On a happy note, I have the most wonderful friends in the world!! My girlfriends in AR scored me the most awesome toddler bed for Logan on Craigslist. Megan sent me the link and I had emailed about it, but the lady wanted it picked up ASAP. Renee, knowing I was gone, just emailed her and got the bed for me!!! She didn't even ask they just knew that we were looking for one and jumped on the great deal. Thanks SOOOOO much you guys!! And, a big thanks to Megan for checking on our kitty and tackling the millipedes which have apparently invaded our house while we were on vacation.....gotta love this weather.

Okay, I'm headed back downstairs to eat with the family and check on Logan who is watching "choo choo train" (Thomas) for the second time today. Is it just me or are those trains creepy? I cannot hardly watch it at all. Thank goodness for grandparents!
