Busy Bee

I know that some of you keep up with my Kalamity Kids projects through Facebook or my Etsy shop, but a lot of you only read the blog. So, for those family and friends who are interested, I wanted to post just a few pictures of what I've been working on lately. I'm so blessed to say that my business is really picking up. I'm averaging several orders per week now (sometimes more!) I stay busy enough to keep me moving between staying caught up on orders and coming up with new ideas/products to list in the shop. I make all of my own patterns, so it always takes me awhile when introducing new items to make sure they are "just right." I'm getting better about balancing my time and learning to juggle the whole working at home thing, while managing a 3 year old. Luckily, I have a wonderful and supportive husband who has no problem building trains or tents with Logan while I'm off sewing. I also have THE BEST friends and family EVER who are constantly supporting me and spreading the word about my shop. I love you guys!!

I've recently started doing t-shirts! I ordered a bunch online from a wholesale resource and I was so excited to get started. This is one I did for a 2 year olds train themed birthday party. I had a customer request a nursing cover as a baby gift, but I didn't want to just do a basic one. I added a pocket with a monogram and boning in the front. (The boning is so that the cover will stick out a little bit and mommy can still peek at her baby while staying modest.) I also added a matching burp cloth, because....a mommy has to match, right?!

Testing it out to make sure the boning held up. Luckily, my tummy sticks out enough that I didn't really have to pretend that there was a baby in there! Working on some more t-shirts...this one is a camouflage number 3 modeled by Logan.

I've also started doing monogrammed onesies with matching burp cloths. These owl and tree prints have been super popular. I've reordered the owl print 3 times!

A new print that started as a custom order for a friend who wanted something to match her monkey nursery. I just got another order for this in a monogrammed onesie with matching burp cloth yesterday. I think the monkeys are a hit!

It's beginning to hit me that I have to start thinking of Fall and Holiday prints and items! I'll probably close the shop down for 4-6 weeks around the time the baby is born, so when I reopen in the middle of November, I have to be Holiday ready! Yup, I'll be sewing Christmas items in August :) I'm still toying with the idea of starting the Kalamity Kids blog....a way to share current projects and the joys and struggles of working at home with (soon to be) 2 small boys. Would you read it?!

Swim Lessons

Logan has been taking swim lessons all summer and is doing really well. The parents sit outside of the pool area behind a window, so I had to sneak in and take these pictures. I didn't want him to see me! I love this place because each class has no more then 4 students. They get great individual attention that way.

Here they all are getting their flippers on at the beginning of class.

And, he's under!

He turned around underwater and found the side all by himself!Climbing out without helpThese next two were taken at the end of class. He was showing me how he can swim underwater for 4 seconds!

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July weekend! We got up early on Saturday and took Logan to the parade. He thought it was so much fun (especially the candy!) Here he is watching with my parents.

and with Uncle Marty and Aunt JillEnjoying some pool time with Daddy at my parent's house
We wanted so badly to take him to see the fireworks on Sunday night, but we just couldn't swing it. His bedtime is 8pm, and since he doesn't take a nap anymore (sigh) he falls asleep right away. The fireworks didn't start until 9:30pm here! Maybe next year....
We spent our free time this weekend getting caught up on all of the yucky projects we've been putting off. I spent forever organizing our file system and getting caught up on our family filing. Yuck. Shane rotated my tires, cleaned my rims, vacuumed out my car and fixed my stereo. (Oh, my--have I mentioned lately how grateful I am to have a handy husband?!)
Logan had his 3 year check up today. He is still weighing in right at 38 lbs and is 3 ft 2 3/4 in tall. He's grown 3 inches since his 2 year check up! He got to pee in a cup for the first time, which oddly enough didn't really phase him. He also got his finger pricked and he didn't even cry. My big boy is growing up! He was already caught up on all of his vaccinations, so he's all set for preschool in the fall.
The baby and I are both doing fine too :) We're both just growing and growing. I'm almost 25 weeks now, and am having to remind myself to take it easy. Luckily, I still have good energy so I'm enjoying that while it lasts. The nursery is almost done, but I need to find some time to spruce it up a bit. I'm planning on ordering a monogram for the wall and doing at least one piece of artwork to put up. We decided to use the same bedding that we used for Logan since it is such great shape and we still love it. (The frugal mommy in me kicked in!) There will be plenty of things that we can do in the room and for the new baby that will be unique and special for him.

Father's Day at the Zoo

On Sunday, for Father's Day, we decided to take advantage of our Zoo membership and check out their new Giants of Savanna exhibit. We were SO glad we did! It is awesome.

Here are Shane and Logan checking out the crocodiles

The absolute best part was the giraffes. Their new home is amazing and you can feed them! I could not believe how close they came. Logan loved it!
It got pretty hot so we had to stop for an ice cream break....of course, he wanted chocolate which lead to an outfit change before finishing the day :)Riding the "pony" in the Children's ZooWe had such a wonderful time enjoying the day as a family. We were all totally exhausted afterwards! Logan fell asleep in the car (which never happens anymore) and we all just kind of laid around the rest of the day.
Baby Boy continues to grow (and grow!) and is moving all the time now. I have my diabetes test in one week, but I can hardly believe that I'm that far along already! Logan felt his first kick a few days ago. He said, "Why is he kicking me?" It was really cute. He always asks me, "What's he doing in there?" And, sometimes he'll tell me things about him. He'll say, "My baby brother doesn't like to have water dumped on his head." (He said this when we pulled out the baby bath tub.) Or, he'll say, "I think he wants to come out now!" I can imagine that it feels like we've been talking about this baby forever and he's beginning to wonder if he's EVER going to be born. I'm sure by October, he'll be thinking we've been playing this joke on him and he'll be surprised when we actually do bring home a baby :)

Family Time!

It seems like the summer is already flying by! I can hardly believe that it is the middle of June and I'm already 5 1/2 months pregnant. I swear, I'm going to blink and it'll be the end of August! I'm really trying to enjoy every single day of summer (no matter how stinkin' hot it gets!) and treasure every day with Logan. This is our last summer as a family of three and my last few months of having him home with me five days a week since he'll start preschool two days a week in the fall.

Last weekend we had a lot of family fun! Friday, we were so lucky because Shane's grandparents got to come out and spend some time with us at our house. Shane's cousin and her son, Ty and his cousin Ryleigh also got to come play with Logan. They all had fun together! Here's a picture of Logan with his great-grandparents.

Here's one with Ty and Ryleigh tooSaturday, we headed out to East Texas for my cousin Kyla's little boy's FIRST birthday! They did such a great job on the party and we had a wonderful time. My Granddad also got to come down from the panhandle, so it was wonderful to visit with him too.
This is the most adorable picture. EVER. (From left to right-Brody, Logan, Mitch, Cohen all second cousins.) I can't wait to add another little boy to this family!!

They had this big waterslide set up for the kids and Logan loved it. Here he is with Brody at the top ready to slide down. They are only a few months apart and two peas in a pod!
Up, up, up!

Down, down, down!

I've also been staying pretty busy with my Kalamity Kids business. For those of you who haven't checked out my shop, you can click on the image on the right to see the new stuff I have listed. I also have a fan page set up on Facebook which has been awesome. I have almost 100 people who "like" my shop and receive my updates. (You don't have to be a member of FB to view it, just go to www.facebook.com/kalamitykids. If you are a member, I'd love it if you'd "like" my shop! Thanks!) I've been having so much fun lately sewing and working on orders. It feels like such a blessing that people are so supportive and like what I am making, and I have some really fun new items in the works.

It's a....

BOY!!!

It was so funny because the ultrasound tech asked us if we wanted to know what we were having, so of course we said, "YES!" As soon as she put the wand on my tummy we saw the view of two legs looking upward. Immediately, Shane said, "Those are boy parts!" so the tech froze the screen and asked us what we thought. We both said "BOY!" It was very obvious :) I think he was trying to tell us to quit calling him a girl! Ha ha ha

Shane and I are both so excited. Pregnancy is such a miracle and to see him moving around in there made us so happy. I got teary just looking at how beautiful he was and thinking about how lucky we are. We were both surprised since we (and everyone else!) thought he was going to be a girl, but we just laughed and smiled watching him dance around. I just feel so lucky and can't wait to see my two boys together!

Update soon to come with the ultrasound pictures. I have another little boy to put to bed before I can get them all scanned in :)

Here's his knee up by his face. He was moving all over the place! Definitely a BOY!!

19 Weeks

Well, I've officially made it to the dreaded 19 week mark! (I only say "dreaded" because this is when my complications started with Logan.) So far, this week has been uneventful except for an extra trip to the OB because of a UTI (ick.) My 20 week check up and ultrasound is tomorrow so tune in to find out if Baby Ellis is a girl or a boy!! We are beyond ready and excited to find out. I've already pulled out all of Logan's baby clothes and have things sorted by boy only and unisex. We bought a swing for the baby over the weekend and it's adorable! We're definitely getting ready :) Shane cannot wait to paint the nursery and would do it this weekend if I could make my mind up on what I want. My plan is to do all the bedding myself, so that means ordering fabric. Daddy will just have to be patient for another week or so!
I'll post ultrasound pictures tomorrow evening so check back! :)
